Joshua 1:9 (episode 3)

Sunday night.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go”
Right. Good. Remember it tomorrow.

Monday.
Wake up.
Get to work. Lots to do. Team politics. Stress. Leave work.
See friends. Laugh. Eat. Leave.
Sleep.

Tuesday.
Wake up.
Get to work. More to do. More team politics. More stress. Leave work later.
Bible study. Eat. Discuss. Leave.
Sleep.

Sometimes, it’s altogether too easy to just live on autopilot. My mind is trying to balance so many things that it switches to autopilot in order to cope more efficiently. Sometimes I’m aware of the switch, and sometimes it takes me a while to catch up with myself and realise that my heart is not in what I’m doing. That in an attempt to not be discouraged, my solution has been for my soul to go to sleep.

But this is not the solution that God has offered us, nor what he has commanded us.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go”

That means to remember in the morning, that Jesus has not died, fought the ultimate battle against death, paid for our sins and been resurrected, for us to live on autopilot.

This means being strong to stand against the daily frustrations and discouragements to persevere and hope, pray and work for spiritual breakthrough in the scope of eternity.

But in the back of my mind I hear “but it’s so hard, so tiring, so draining, and inefficient”
Then I think of Jesus and his time on earth. His time spent with people, his compassion which left no space for an autopilot.

I guess love isn’t efficient.

This week’s sermon response was written by an author who for now wants to be anonymous.

In addition, as I was away this week speaking at Edward Road Baptist Church, the recording didn’t record properly. So unfortunately this week’s message by Alexander Chow and the worship set are unavailable. If you do want to find his slides, they are available on the BCEC Sermon Page or see the slides directly – Joshua 1:9.
